Christmas Prelude is one of the nation’s best Christmas Festivals, and this year was absolutely jam packed with incredibly festive events to celebrate the Christmas season in Kennebunkport Maine. For eleven days, Christmas comes to life in this seaside town on the Maine Coast, and it couldn’t be more spectacular. As always, Christmas Prelude kicks into gear the Thursday following Thanksgiving (this year, November 29 – December 9, 2018), and you’ll find events day in and day out for a week and a half!
The first weekend boasts fun events like caroling, chestnut roasting, lobster bakes, and countless craft fairs. The weekday schedule offers classic Christmas fun like the “Cookie Crawl,” complete with candle lit tours of your favorite inns like the Maine Stay Inn! But the holiday indulging doesn’t stop there, with tastings at local restaurants, bake-offs, and ice skating parties.
During the last weekend, visitors and locals alike enjoy tree lighting, fireworks, and musical performances and much, much more! But our personal favorite event is the Walk to Bethlehem – a reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for an inn. Complete with characters in costume, candle-lit Christmas caroling, and gallons of cocoa, hundreds join in song to walk from inn to inn, finally finding refuge in a barn! Hosted by the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport, we celebrate with dozens and dozens of homemade cookies, gallons of hot cocoa, and a blessing from Pastor Joe at the Village Baptist Church. But if you’re rusty on the caroling lyrics, we provide everyone with a musical packet! It’s the perfect way to usher in the holiday season!
But with countless events over the first two weeks of December, you are certain to find the holiday spirit right here in Kennebunkport Maine!
