For many people, Veteran’s Day means a shorter work week or long weekend, but at our Kennebunkport, Maine bed and breakfast it means the opportunity to open our arms and our doors to the nation’s veterans. Each year, we offer a selection of complimentary rooms through the B&Bs For Vets program, as well as 50% off stays for Veterans throughout the week of Veteran’s Day. Active and retired military members alike will enjoy a special stay at the Maine Stay to kick back and relax!
Unlike Memorial Day, which honors fallen veterans, most cities and towns don’t celebrate with parades or armed salutes, so it can be easy forget what this holiday is really about.
All of us at the Maine Stay enjoy the opportunity to welcome veterans (some active, and others retired), and to listen as they share their stories.
Each year it is such a treat, and we are already looking forward to this year’s Veteran’s Day! The complimentary rooms tend to be snatched up quickly, but we’re always happy to extend a special 50% discount on any room or suite to Vets looking to stay longer or getaway on a different day (during the week leading up to and including Veteran’s Day Weekend).
One of my favorite ways to pay homage to the members of the military is to enjoy a waterfront walk from the Maine Stay Inn along Ocean Avenue, out towards the Bush Estate. The American flag will be flying high at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, just as it will be at the Bush Estate, about two miles from our Maine Bed and Breakfast. As you reach the scenic overlook before the Compound, you’ll find a large anchor, which commemorates George H.W. Bush’s military service, as well as that of other service men and women. Not only is it a beautiful walk, it’s a great way to remember the true significance of Veteran’s Day!
