Martin Luther King Day is January 15th and this year we celebrate the 79th birthday of this remarkable civil rights leader. April 4th this year also marks the 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s assasination. Just one day before his assasination Dr. King delivered one of his most memorable speeches which included the words, “…I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.”
Like so many other holidays, MLK Day has been changed to be celebrated on a Monday creating a three-day weekend. This year we celebrate on Monday, January 21.
In a poll conducted by The Discovery Channel and AOL, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was selected by the American Public as the third Greatest American.
