There is nothing better than a refreshing margarita on a warm summer night here on the Maine Coast, and now that National Tequila Day is upon us, there is an added reason to indulge this week! With National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, it has been quite the week, but beautiful summer weather definitely calls for indulging – plus calories don’t count in Vacationland. So this week, when choosing to imbibe, there are lots of great places in the Kennebunkport culinary scene to choose from, so we’ll share a few spots that bear special mention.
When it comes to tequila, the first thing that comes to mind is Mexican, and The Kennebunks are fortunate to have a quirky and casual spot that is sure to hit the spot. Pedro’s is a Mexican restaurant, featuring staples like tacos and fajitas. Decorated with mementos from south of the border, and a great outdoor fire pit to set the tone, Pedro’s is a great spot to kick back and relax in Lower Village Kennebunk. Their homemade syrups take their cocktail game to a whole new level, and even if Mexican cuisine isn’t your favorite, their bar is worth the visit (as is the life size metal palm tree outside).
Alisson’s Restaurant has gotten an overhaul in the decor department in the past few years, but the classic clapboard front with picture windows overlooking Dock Square hasn’t changed – phew! This spot absolutely takes the cake when it comes to prime real estate, sitting right in the heart of town, just a short walk from the Maine Stay Inn. The casual dining is a solid staple and their bar area is busting all year round, but you can be sure to find a crowd enjoying their fill of tequila on National Tequila Day. Even closer to the Maine Stay sits Bandaloop Restaurant, tucked away behind the Dock Square steps. Although their address is 2 Dock Square, you’ll find their entrance on Cross Street. Serving up locally sourced food since 2004, chef-owners Scott and Bridget have created an incredible spot with an ever changing menu. While the bar is small, its menu makes up for that, and you can be sure they will be offering hand-crafted cocktails to honor National Tequila Day.
Federal Jack’s Brew Pub overlooks the Kennebunk River and the marinas, making their extensive porches perfect for enjoying a summer tequila-containing beverage on a warm summer night. But if you’d prefer a good beer, this is also the spot for you, as it is the home of Shipyard Ale and their specialty brews are made right on side in the ground-floor Kennebunkport Brewing Company. The Arundel Wharf Restaurant is just a block from the inn, and has the best waterfront porch around, making it the ideal spot for Happy Hour. Add in their fried sunspots (rounds of sweet potatoes with a delicious dipping sauce) and that tequila sunrise sounds even better!
But the thing we like to see the best is when folks are lounging on the front porch or in the backyard, drink in hand, so we’ve got to put in a plug for laying low and enjoying National Tequila Day Maine Stay style. No matter where (or when) you choose to celebrate, Kennebunkport Maine has you covered when it comes to great restaurants and bars to enjoy a good cocktail.
